East Wall With Brace
Taken in October, 1996, this photo shows the new east wall of the main house. The wooden brace propping up the north wall of the main house was placed there some months before the restoration of the house began. In the Fall of 1995, fearing that the east wall was going to collapse, Prof. Perry contacted Mayor Fannin and suggested that a temporary brace be placed on the northeast corner of the main house. Edward Nairn helped Perry get Fannin`s ear. Tom Harris and a crew of men from the city shop subsequently erected the brace. Contractor Kauble later commented that the brace had been a good idea. In fact, it may have saved the wall from collapsing.
