Old Studs Uncovered
This photo shows the old studs that were uncovered when the plaster and laths were removed from the south wall of the north upstairs bedroom. May family tradition says that this wall was added to the room following the Civil War. This is the only interior wall which is not composed of bricks. The original room extended from the south wall of the upstairs landing to the north wall of the bedroom. A protective rail probably guarded the top of the staircase. It was in this room that Samuel`s children held their parties and dances. `While fiddlers played, each beau and belle / Bowed and curtseyed and joyfully pranced / And the rafters rang with the tunes they danced.`
