East Wall, September 1996
This photograph shows the east wall of the main house as it looked in September, 1996. Jack Kauble began the restoration by demolishing a large part of this wall and rebuilding it from the ground up. This shows the rebuilt wall. At the beginning of the restoration, the east wall was the focus of much worry and concern. The original wall had collapsed during the blasting for U.S. Highway 23 in the 1970s. A cement-block wall had subsequently been erected in its place, but a crack had developed between it and the original wall. Jack knew that if he wanted to save the house, he would have to reconstruct the east wall
