Roofing the Ell
This photo shows the rear of the house as it appeared in December, 1996, when the roof of the newly-constructed ell was nearing completion. At that point parts of the east wall of the main house still hadn`t been steam-cleaned. The May House roof is a custom-cut standing-seam steel roof. Rolls of sheet steel were hauled to the site and cut on a cast-steel cutting machine. The roof of the ell was constructed by Jack Kauble and local craftsman Brent McCormick. By the way, Brent McCormick is the son of Joy James, wife of Fred James, Sr. and member in good standing of the Friends of the Samuel May House.
