John Miller Tuckpointing
This photo shows John Miller tuckpointing the bricks on the front facade of the house. Of all the walls of the house, this wall has remained the most stable, probably because it is laid in a Flemish bond. John`s work consisted of three stages. First, he steam-cleaned the bricks, removing two centuries of dirt and grime. Then he removed any loose or discolored mortar. Then he applied new mortar in places where the mortar was missing. This was tedious, painstaking work, and for it we all owe John a debt of gratitude. Good work, John!
