William and E. B. May, Jr.
This photo shows William May and E. B. May, Jr. standing in front of their Grandma Barney`s house in Ashland, Kentucky. With their double-breasted suits and Fedora hats, they look like they could hold their own with John Dillinger. In 1942 Bill joined the U. S. Army and saw action in Europe, serving with the 125th AAA Battalion. His unit was under fire during the Battle of the Bulge. E. B. served with the U. S. Marines in the South Pacific and saw action at Iwo Jima. After the war, Bill and E. B. returned to Floyd County and entered civilian life. Bill learned sign-painting and took a job with the Russell May Sign Company. E. B. became manager of the shoe department in the Francis Department Store.
