When Jack May died in 1903, the Tazewell Bar paid him this tribute: `Adopting this county as his home after the war, he early became a successful lawyer; marked high as a trusted and faithful counselor; his fidelity to clients never flagged. His qualities showed best as an advocate, for he was bold and aggressive--often brilliant--in his courtroom encounters. He was a man of high public spirit and will long be remembered for his sincere charity and kindness to the poor and needy.`
